Housing in northern Alberta has been identified region-wide as a priority issue that impacts the economic, social and physical well-being of residents. Not only is the general quality of life of residents challenged by gaps in low income and seniors’ housing, but also the business community and public sectors face difficulty recruiting and retaining employees due to inadequate housing options that meet their employees’ needs. The Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) continues to work with communities to support advancing affordable and social housing within the region. In partnership with communities, organizations and housing experts, research and workshops offer housing expertise to produce practicable northern solutions. The NADC partnered with Cold Lake Affordable Housing Society to host a round table discussion on March 24, 2009 in Cold Lake. This discussion brought together individuals and organizations involved in affordable and social housing, with the intent to share experiences and best practices, and to network in promoting affordable housing within northern communities. The following speakers and their presentations are presented here for your convenience. |
